Naha Airport Car Rental: 5 Companies Compared (2026)
この記事をシェア XFacebookLINE

Note: This article is written by UMUI Rent a Car, which operates the Naha Airport and Omoromachi branches. We have ranked ourselves first, and the information on other companies is based on what we could confirm on each company’s official website as of October 2026.

You land at Naha Airport and the rental car shuttle is slow to come. Or you reach the counter and the insurance add-ons push the price well above what you booked. Both are common stories from trips to Okinawa. At Naha Airport, every rental car company has its office outside the airport, so you ride a shuttle bus first and pick up your car there. That means choosing on the daily rate alone can backfire: waiting time and extra fees on the day make the real difference.

In this guide we compare five rental car companies with a shuttle service from Naha Airport on three points: whether insurance is included in the price, where the shuttle stop is and how long the ride takes, and opening hours. If you are still deciding where to rent for your first trip to Okinawa, we hope it helps.

Three Things to Check When Renting a Car at Naha Airport

1. Is insurance (CDW and NOC) included in the price?

In most rental price lists, the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is not included. CDW waives the deductible you would otherwise pay if you damage the car in an accident. At the major companies it is an extra ¥1,100 to ¥2,530 per day.

Also watch out for the NOC (Non-Operation Charge). This is a fee for the time the car is out of service after an accident, and it is generally around ¥20,000 if you can drive the car back yourself and around ¥50,000 if you cannot. Even if you have CDW, the NOC is separate, and at most companies you need an additional plan to waive it.

When you compare, look at the total including CDW and NOC coverage rather than the advertised rate.

2. Shuttle stop and ride time to the office

Leave the first floor of the Naha Airport domestic terminal and cross the crosswalk, and you will find the rental car shuttle stops lined up. Each company uses a different stop number, and the ride to the office ranges from about 5 minutes to about 20 minutes. In busy seasons the roads get crowded, and some companies note on their official sites that the shuttle may take longer than usual.

Also note that from January 2026 the bus stops on the first floor of Naha Airport are being reorganized, and the way stops are named is changing. Check the latest instructions from the company you booked with before you travel.

3. Opening hours and your arrival time

If your flight arrives in the evening, opening hours matter. Some companies stop accepting customers at 18:00, and with a late flight you may not be able to pick up a car that day. Compare your arrival time with the office’s opening hours and the last shuttle time.

It may sound self-serving, but we put ourselves in first place. The main feature is that CDW and NOC coverage are both included in the base price. There are no insurance fees to add at the counter, so you rent at the price you booked.

The smallest class, Compact Car A, costs ¥6,600 for 24 hours and ¥4,400 per day from the second day (regular season, as of October 2026; ¥11,000 for 24 hours in peak season). For example, three days in the regular season comes to ¥6,600 + ¥4,400 x 2 days = ¥15,400, and that includes CDW and NOC coverage.

There are 8 vehicle classes, from compact cars to compact SUVs, station wagons, SUVs, minivans and luxury minivans, so families and groups are covered too.

We also offer online check-in, which you can finish on your smartphone before you leave. You can enter your details and review the coverage and rental terms in advance, so on the day all that is left is checking your driver’s license and a walk-through of the car. The booking site and online check-in are available in four languages: Japanese, English, Korean and Traditional Chinese.

When you arrive at the airport, please come to rental car shuttle stop “14-C”. Our staff will be waiting for you.

A major company with branches all over Japan, which makes it a reassuring choice if you are new to renting. The Naha Airport branch is about 5 minutes from the airport by shuttle, the shortest ride of the five companies here. It is open 8:00-20:00 every day, so it is easy to use with an evening flight. Self check-in is available, and the official website can be switched to English, Traditional Chinese, Korean and Thai.

Insurance is not included in the displayed rate. CDW is ¥1,100 per 24 hours (¥2,200 for some larger cars), and the “Anshin W Plan,” which also waives the NOC, is ¥1,650 per 24 hours, or CDW plus ¥550. You can drop the car off at another branch on the main island of Okinawa.

For departures from September 1 to December 24, 2026, a campaign rate starting at ¥4,400 for 12 hours is also listed (please check the official website for eligible classes and conditions). CDW is optional, at ¥1,100 per 24 hours (¥2,200 for higher classes). One-way rental within the main island of Okinawa is also available.

Nippon Rent-A-Car, another major company, handles Naha Airport shuttle pickups at its Toyosaki Office. The shuttle stop is “11-A,” and the ride to the office is about 20 minutes. The official site says the shuttle between the office and the airport may take around 1 hour when it is busy, so allow extra time in peak season.

CDW is ¥1,100 to ¥2,200 per day depending on the car class, the “ECO” plan that waives the NOC is ¥440 per day, and the “Full Support” plan that combines both starts at ¥2,200 per day. Guide pages in English and other languages are also available.

Shuttle Free shuttle (stop 11-A, about 20 minutes to the office; around 1 hour when busy)

5th: OTS Rent-a-Car, Toyosaki Office (Naha Airport)

OTS Rent-a-Car, which is based mainly in Okinawa, offers a wide range of vehicles from kei cars to wagons, including an electric vehicle class (Nissan Leaf). The shuttle stop is “10-A,” and the ride to the Toyosaki Office takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The stop is scheduled to be renamed “R-10,” so check the latest instructions before you go.

CDW is ¥1,650 per day, charged separately from the displayed rate. There is also an English official website, which explains how to get there from the international terminal.

Comparison of the Five Companies

Company Insurance Shuttle stop Ride to office Hours
UMUI Rent a Car CDW and NOC both included 14-C – 8:00-20:00
Toyota Rent a Car Separate (Anshin W Plan from ¥1,650 per 24 hours) 11-A About 5 min 8:00-20:00
ORIX Rent-A-Car Separate (CDW from ¥1,100 per 24 hours) Please check the official site About 20 min 9:00-19:00
Nippon Rent-A-Car Separate (Full Support from ¥2,200 per day) 11-A About 20 min Please check the official site
OTS Rent-a-Car Separate (CDW ¥1,650 per day) 10-A (R-10) About 15-20 min Please check the official site

The longer you rent, the bigger the gap from insurance add-ons. For example, if you add a plan that waives the NOC for 3 days, Toyota Rent a Car’s Anshin W Plan adds ¥1,650 x 3 days = ¥4,950, and Nippon Rent-A-Car’s Full Support adds ¥2,200 x 3 days = ¥6,600 on top of the displayed rate (both for the smallest class).

  • Finish online check-in beforehand: If your company offers it, you can complete everything except showing your license in advance, which cuts the wait at the counter considerably.
  • Note down your shuttle stop number: Stops differ by company and the names are changing. Check the number in your booking confirmation email.
  • Keep the contact number in case your flight is late: If you are likely to arrive after closing time, contact the office as early as you can.
  • Leave plenty of time for the return: After you return the car, you still ride the shuttle back to the airport. Roads get crowded in busy seasons, so work backward from your departure time and return the car early.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a rental car counter inside Naha Airport?

The first-floor arrivals lobby at Naha Airport has a rental car information counter (9:00-19:00), but you pick up your car at each company’s office. After you arrive, head to the shuttle stop of the company you booked.

If I have CDW, am I free of any cost in an accident?

CDW waives the deductible only. The NOC (Non-Operation Charge) is separate. To waive the NOC as well, you need to add each company’s NOC coverage plan. At UMUI Rent a Car, CDW and NOC coverage are both included in the base price.

Can I rent a car with a foreign driver’s license?

You can drive in Japan with an International Driving Permit (issued under the Geneva Convention by a member country), or with a license from certain countries and regions, such as Taiwan, together with an official Japanese translation. For details, see our driving licenses page.

Summary

Naha Airport rental prices can look similar on a price list, but once you compare how insurance is handled, the shuttle and the opening hours, it becomes clear which company suits your trip.
