Note: This article was written by UMUI Rent a Car, which operates the Naha Airport and Omoromachi branches. We have ranked ourselves first. For the other companies, we have used only what we could confirm on their official websites as of October 2026.
Have you ever looked at your Okinawa itinerary and wondered, “I’m staying in Naha for 4 nights. Do I really need a car the whole time?” On days when you walk around the Kokusai-dori area or visit places along the Yui Rail line, you will be fine without one. On days when you want to drive along the coast or reach somewhere that is hard to get to by train, a car widens your trip considerably.
This article suggests a travel style for people staying in Naha: use the Yui Rail on some days and drive on others. You rent a car for just 12 or 24 hours on the day you drive. We look at five companies near Omoromachi Station where you can rent for a single day, and explain how to think about rates and how to choose. If you searched for “Naha car rental” or “one-day car rental in Okinawa,” this is for you.
How the “rent only on driving days” trip works

Take the Yui Rail from the airport into the city
From Naha Airport into the city, the Yui Rail (Okinawa Urban Monorail) is convenient. The standard ride from Naha Airport Station to Omoromachi Station is 19 minutes and 320 yen for an adult. You do not need to wait for a rental car shuttle bus at the airport; you can go straight to your hotel in the city.
For getting around the city, Yui Rail also offers unlimited-ride passes. The 1-day pass is 1,000 yen for an adult (24 hours), and the 2-day pass is 1,800 yen for an adult (48 hours); for children they are 500 yen and 900 yen respectively. If you separate the days you use a pass from the days you rent a car, you waste less on transport.
The idea of not keeping a car the whole time
If you rent a car for your entire trip, you pay for the days you do not use it. And if you keep the car at a hotel in Naha, parking fees and the number of spaces differ from one property to the next, so you will want to check with your accommodation before you book. If you decide not to rent on days you are not driving, this worry shrinks.
Let us run a quick calculation. Using UMUI Rent a Car’s Compact Car A (standard season) and driving on only one day of a 4-day stay:
- Rent only on the driving day: 12-hour plan 5,500 yen + Yui Rail for the 3 days without driving (2-day pass 1,800 yen + 1-day pass 1,000 yen, adult) = 8,300 yen
- Rent for all 4 days: 24 hours 6,600 yen + 4,400 yen x 3 days from the second day = 19,800 yen
The best combination depends on your sightseeing plans and on your hotel’s parking situation, but if you drive on only 1 or 2 days, renting just for those days is worth considering (fuel and similar costs are not included).
12 hours or 24 hours?

When you rent for a single day, it helps to choose a company that offers both a 12-hour plan and a 24-hour plan. At UMUI Rent a Car, standard-season rates are as follows (tax included, as of October 2026, for the five classes at the Omoromachi branch).
| Class | 12 hours | 24 hours |
|---|---|---|
| Compact Car A | 5,500 yen | 6,600 yen |
| Compact Car B | 5,500 yen | 7,150 yen |
| Compact SUV | 6,600 yen | 8,800 yen |
| Station Wagon | 7,040 yen | 9,240 yen |
| Minivan | 11,000 yen | 12,100 yen |
For Compact Car A, the difference between 12 and 24 hours is 1,100 yen. If a daytime drive is enough, 12 hours works; if you want some breathing room, 24 hours is the better fit.
One thing to note: the Omoromachi branch is open 9:00 to 18:00. Both pickup and return must fall within those hours, so check your timing before booking. Rates change in the peak season (Compact Car A for 24 hours is 11,000 yen).
What to look at when choosing a one-day rental
1. The total after coverage is added
When you rent for just one day, the number in the rate table is not always what you end up paying. Whether CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) and NOC (Non-Operation Charge, a fee for the time a car is out of service after an accident) are included in the displayed rate changes what you actually pay. Short-duration plans tend to look cheap, so the trick is to compare the total after coverage has been added.
2. Distance from the station and opening hours
On the 2nd floor of T Galleria Okinawa by DFS at Omoromachi Station, there are counters for Toyota, ORIX, Sky, and Nippon. If you will return the car in the evening of your driving day, the closing time matters too.
Five rental companies for people who want to rent only on driving days

No. 1: UMUI Rent a Car, Omoromachi Branch

Forgive us for singing our own praises, but number one is us, UMUI Rent a Car. The reason is that CDW and NOC coverage are both included in the base rate. You do not need to add an insurance fee at the counter to the 12-hour price of 5,500 yen (Compact Car A, standard season).
The Omoromachi branch is a 3-minute walk from Omoromachi Station on the Yui Rail. Naha Airport Station to Omoromachi Station is 19 minutes, so you can come by Yui Rail from the airport and pick up your car right away. There is no airport shuttle, but if you are staying in the city, you can reach us from your hotel by train and a short walk. Our five classes are Compact Car A and B, Compact SUV, Station Wagon, and Minivan.
We also offer online check-in, which you can complete on your smartphone before departure. You can enter your details and review the coverage and rental terms in advance, so the procedure on the morning you drive is shorter. Booking and online check-in are available in four languages: Japanese, English, Korean, and Traditional Chinese. Payment is by credit card or electronic money; cash is not accepted.
Please note that UMUI Rent a Car does not offer one-way rentals (returning the car to a different branch or location). Plan your trip on the basis that you return the car to the branch where you picked it up.

No. 2: ORIX Rent-A-Car, Omoromachi Ekimae Branch

This branch is directly connected to Omoromachi Station, on the 2nd floor of T Galleria Okinawa, and is open daily from 9:00 to 19:00 (may differ around New Year and on public holidays). For someone renting for a single day, the notable point is that short-duration plans are announced officially.
For departures from September 1 to December 24, 2026, the branch page lists SA-class rates of from 4,400 yen for 12 hours (under the Early Booking 60, Early Booking 30, and Limited Quantity Special plans) and from 5,830 yen for 6 hours under the Okinawa Drive Plan in the SA class. These apply to the Naha Airport branch and the Omoromachi Ekimae branch only. The displayed amount looks lower than UMUI’s Compact Car A (5,500 yen for 12 hours), but these are campaign rates for the SA class with set periods and booking conditions. The branch page also does not say whether coverage is included in these amounts, so we could not confirm it. Please check the conditions and the total on the official website before applying.
The page states that ETC card rental is not available.

No. 3: Toyota Rent a Car, Omoromachi Ekimae DFS Okinawa Naha Branch

ETC card rental and barrier-free access are available. There is no shuttle, delivery, or self check-in. The branch page gives no specifics on rates and coverage, so please check the official website.

No. 4: Sky Rent a Car, T Galleria Okinawa Branch

This branch is next to Omoromachi Station and is entered through the 2nd-floor connecting passage. It is open from 9:00 to 19:00 every day of the year, has no airport shuttle, and the official website says it is about 15 minutes from Naha Airport by monorail.
What stands out for a one-day trip is the effort to cut down on return hassle. There is a “Rakuraku Return Plan” that removes the need to return the car with a full tank, and you can receive T Galleria discount coupons for free. The site also mentions up to 80% off for bookings made on the official website and 5% off the base rate with advance payment. For coverage, a campaign offers “wide coverage” for 550 yen (tax included) when booked in advance on the official website, and the Full Support Plan includes wide coverage. We have not been able to confirm how this corresponds to CDW or NOC, however.

|---|---|
| Hours | 9:00 to 19:00 (open every day of the year) |
| Access | Next to Omoromachi Station (via the 2nd-floor connecting passage). No airport shuttle |
| Features | “Rakuraku Return Plan” with no full-tank return, free child seats for official-website bookings |
| Coverage | Wide coverage 550 yen (campaign for advance booking on the official website) |
No. 5: Nico Nico Rent a Car, Naha Shintoshin Branch

This one is a little different from the four companies connected to the station: it is a shop in Omoromachi 4-chome. Its biggest attraction is long opening hours of 8:00 to 21:00 (the same on weekends). It is reassuring on days when you want to drive until after dinner or set off early in the morning.
With the “Nicopass” app, you can set off in as little as 3 minutes, and the company also offers an after-hours return service and late-night rentals. “Menseki Hosho Plus” (CDW Plus) and “Perfect Coverage” are listed as coverage options, but we could not confirm their content or rates on the branch page. We also could not confirm from official information the walking time from the station or whether a shuttle is offered, so please check the access on the official website.

Comparison of the five companies
| Company | Short plans (as confirmed officially) | Access from the station | Hours | Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UMUI Rent a Car | 12 hours 5,500 yen (Compact Car A) | 3-minute walk from Omoromachi Station | 9:00 to 18:00 | CDW and NOC included in the rate |
| ORIX Rent-A-Car | SA class from 4,400 yen for 12 hours (period and conditions apply) | Directly connected to the station | 9:00 to 19:00 | Not listed on the branch page |

| Nico Nico Rent a Car | Please check the official website | Not confirmed officially | 8:00 to 21:00 | “CDW Plus” and others |
As the table shows, on the displayed amount alone, ORIX’s 12-hour campaign stands out. We still rank UMUI Rent a Car first because coverage is included in the rate and you do not have to add anything up at the counter. Whatever you choose, always check the total with coverage on the booking screen before you compare.
